The Micah Watson Band

The process of building a history is often as important as the success that comes along with it. The Micah Watson Band’s five-year history certainly proves the importance of that process. Tough times and close calls were followed by periods of unity and success. Changes abounded. Since the independent release of their debut album, Glorious Unveiling, the band has celebrated a marriage, new children and a big move to a new city and church family for Micah. Soul-searching was required and growth resulted. And the central focus remained on Jesus. Sixty-months into the building of their history, Micah, Jason and Joe are immovably committed to seeing God’s mission for the Micah Watson Band fulfilled.

Following Glorious Unveiling, the band had opportunities to share songs from the album with churches all over the country. Stops in Texas, Indiana, West Virginia and dozens of other locations helped shape them into an exceptional live band. During this time, a passion to create a truly great record ignited. This began a two-year stretch of writing music, recording demos, worshipping and sharing new songs with the band’s home churches in Virginia, Mount Ararat in Stafford and Liberty Baptist in Hampton, and on tour across the country.

With much prayer, a theme and structure for the new music began to take shape. First: Jesus Christ is supreme. The Savior of the World is unlike any other that claims to be God. He alone is Lord and Master. Second: Jesus calls men and women into a unique relationship with Him—to be sons and daughters of God the Father and to commune with one another in the Holy Spirit. These truths encouraged the band’s desire to remind believers that they are children of the Almighty God and belong to a place not of this world.

The theme and vision were confirmed in May 2009 when the band announced news of an incredible blessing. Mac Powell of the rock band Third Day would soon produce the newly entitled Daughters and Sons album and Third Day’s engineer, Don McCollister, would partner with him. In a miraculously short amount of time, the band recorded eleven songs in Third Day’s brand-new studio in Atlanta (the paint was still drying!) under the guidance of Powell and McCollister. The resulting work is something truly extraordinary, and Micah feels it is the best of his 15-year career. “I didn’t want to write a collection of songs about God as much as I wanted to write songs to God and provide the Body of Christ an opportunity to worship. These songs are confessions of our need for Him and declarations that we belong to Him. Daughters and Sons is very special and personal, and I can’t wait to hear my brothers and sisters singing along.”

Creating Daughters and Sons is only the beginning of the Micah Watson Band’s newest chapter; the message of the album must now be shared. They are preparing for their most ambitious tour to date beginning February 2010, and are using the modern blessings of social networking to make connections with fellow believers. Above all else, the Micah Watson Band seeks to share God’s desire for all people to become His daughters and sons, building their history in Him.
